An MRI confirmed a torn UCL in the right elbow of Colorado Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt, an injury which could potentially end the 38-year-old's career, The Denver Post reports.
Given his age and the lengthy recovery time, Betancourt told the Post he will contemplate retirement:
At my age, trying to come back at nearly 40, I don't know if I can do that ... I have talked to my family, they know it's possible I might not pitch again.
Betancourt injured his elbow Wednesday. A Cleveland Indian for seven years, Betancourt was traded to the Rockies in 2009. He saved 31 games last season and has 16 this year with a career-high ERA of 4.08.
