Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista will miss the remainder of the season with a femur bone bruise, according to a tweet posted by the team Wednesday afternoon.
The news may not come as much of a surprise, as Bautista has been out since Aug. 20 with what was then diagnosed as a bruised hip. He was placed on the 15-day DL to rehab the injury but the Blue Jays confirmed today that the injury still lingers and that he will continue to undergo treatment so that he's healthy for spring training.
Earlier this season, Bautista missed a string of games due to back spasms. The 32-year-old ends his year with averages of .259/.358/.498 with 28 home runs and 73 RBIs.
Entering Wednesday afternoon's game in Arizona to play the Diamondbacks, the Blue Jays are 64-75 and at the bottom of the AL East.
