Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila left Thursday night's game against the Boston Red Sox with a knee injury after he was involved in a collision catcher David Ross.

The Tigers said that the injury was a left knee patella tendon strain. He is officially listed as day-to-day.

Avila stayed in the Game 5 of the ALCS against the Red Sox initially, but eventually had to leave. He was replaced by Brayan Pena behind the plate. Avila also took a foul tip right off his catcher's mask, but the Tigers said it was the knee injury that finally forced him to leave the game.
