Devils captain Bryce Salvador hits head and hip, exits game early

New Jersey Devils captain Bryce Salvador hit his head on both the boards and then the ice during Saturday's game. He was unable to get up on his own, despite several attempts and had to be helped off of the ice late in the first period of the game.

Salvador missed the entire 2010-2011 season with a cochlear concussion. Because of his history, there was concern about the potential extent of Salvador's head injury.

However, Salvador said that it was his hip, not his head, that caused him trouble. From NJ.com's Rich Chere's report:

"(Was I) dazed? No. It was all in my hip," Salvador said. "We’ve got great trainers in here. It took some time but we were able to work out the pain and the stiffness. I felt like I had the strength and felt I could play."
