Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland will make a cameo in the Dumb and Dumber sequel, joining original cast members Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.

It's not clear what role Holland will have in Dumber and Dumber To, which is set to premiere in 2014, but according to a report on Wednesday from Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas, the 27-year-old Holland will appear in the opening scene of the movie, though he won't have any lines.

According to Durrett, Holland, who can recite most of the lines from the original movie, was invited by the producers, brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly, to visit the set of the sequel. Holland later joked that they gave him a silent role because "they weren't ready for my acting career to take off like that."

The Farrelly brothers' introduction to Holland traces to a target="_blank">video of the pitcher from the past season that appeared on MLB.com's Fan Cave. In it, Holland appears with then-teammate Justin Grimm -- who was subsequently traded to the Chicago Cubs in the Matt Garza deal this past July -- dressed in the blue and orange tuxedos made famous by Carrey and Daniels in the target="_blank">original 1994 movie. The Farrelly brothers saw the video, one thing led to another, and Holland was asked to be in the opening scene of the sequel next year.

Holland said he's "thrilled to death" to be in the movie, but admitted he can't say much about it yet:

"I'm thrilled to death. I'm very, very, very excited. I can't really say too much. I have to keep it a secret. But it's my favorite movie."

Holland isn't the first athlete to appear in the Dumb and Dumber series. In the original movie, former Boston Bruins forward Cam Neely target="_blank">played the role of "Sea Bass" with Carrey and Daniels.

VERDUCCI: Lack of familiarity gives this World Series an old-school feel

Holland, who signed a five-year, $28 million extension with the Rangers in March 2012, tweeted a photo of him with Carrey on Tuesday, shortly before it was confirmed that he will make the cameo.
