Report: Mets' Ruben Tejada may file grievance against team

Young Mets infielder Ruben Tejada may file a grievance against the team, Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reported Sunday.

In the potential grievance, Tejada would accuse the Mets of waiting to call him up, thereby costing him a day of service time that would have allowed him to become a free agent after the 2016 season instead of the 2017 season.

The Mets didn't call up Tejada from Triple-A Las Vegas until Sept. 10. He was their final September call-up of the season — three days after Las Vegas lost its final playoff game and after a flurry of other call-ups from the Mets' Triple-A affiliate.

The Mets didn't comment on the potential grievance.

Tejada replaced Jose Reyes as the Mets' starting shortstop in 2012 after Jose Reyes signed with the Miami Marlins as a free agent. The Mets sent him to Triple-A this season after he suffered a quad injury and amid severe struggles. He finished the season batting just .202 with no homers, 10 RBI, and a .519 OPS in 202 at-bats.
