A former scout for the Chicago White Sox has been sentenced to 8 months in jail for his role in a kickback scheme involving prospect bonuses, according to the Associated Press.

Victor Mateo was sentenced in Chicago on Friday. Mateo's lawyer said that he had hoped his client would get probation and that Mateo had begun coaching youth baseball since being fired by the White Sox in an effort to make amends.

Mateo was a scout in Latin America for the White Sox when he began inflating player signing bonuses and taking the difference for himself.
