Report: Tigers, Brian Wilson 'moving toward deal'

The Detroit Tigers are in "serious" negotiations with closer Brian Wilson and are "moving toward" a deal, The Detroit News' Lynn Henning reported Monday.

Henning reported that Wilson and his agent, Dan Lozano, met with Tigers manager Brad Ausmus in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Tigers are looking for a permanent closer after filling that role by committee last season.

Wilson, who is no fit for the New York Yankees because he won't shave his beard, could fill the closer role in Detroit. The 31-year-old Wilson was last a full-time closer in 2011 with the San Francisco Giants, before he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2012.

In 2010, he led the majors with 48 saves. He has 171 saves in his career, along with a 3.10 career ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Wilson had a 0.66 ERA in 13 1/3 innings pitched.
