Junior forward Greg Whittington was dismissed from the Georgetown basketball team, head coach John Thompson III announced on Saturday before the Hoyas defeated Lipscomb, 70-49.
Reason for the dismissal wasn't given, but Whittington only played 13 games last season before he was suspended for academic issues. He averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds before the suspension.
The 6-foot-8-inch Whittington was ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn ACL suffered over the summer, but it was unclear whether he could have played for the Hoyas this year. If he did, it likely only would have been for the end of Big East play.
Georgetown is 4-2 and beat No. 10 VCU last Sunday.
