Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski has agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox, as first reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
ESPN's Buster Olney reported Pierzynski's deal is worth $8.25 million, pending a physical.
Pierzynski, 37, hit .272 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI in 134 games last season for the Rangers.
The addition of Pierzynski could signal the Red Sox will not bring back catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The team had reportedly offered Saltalamacchia a two-year deal.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports recently reported the Marlins have made an offer to Saltalamacchia.
