Reports: Jim Fregosi taken off life support after multiple strokes

Jim Fregosi, a former MLB manager and All Star, has been taken off life support after suffering multiple strokes last weekend during a Major League Baseball alumni cruise, according to multiple reports.

MLB.com's Tracy Ringolsby reported, citing a statement from Fregosi's family, that he was taken off life support Thursday and placed under sedation at a Miami hospital. He had been flown to Miami from the Cayman Islands on Wednesday after his condition had stabilized.

According to ESPN.com, Fregosi is under the care of a neurologist at Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Fregosi managed the Philadelphia Phillies to the 1993 National League pennant, and he has spent 53 years in the sport as a player, manager, and scout. He also managed the Angels, White Sox, and Blue Jays. For the past 13 seasons, he has served as a special assistant to the Atlanta Braves' general manager.
