Team Canada center and New York Islanders captain John Tavares will miss the remainder of the Sochi Games with a knee injury, head coach Mike Babcock confirmed Wednesday.
Tavares left the ice after taking a hard hit from Latvian defenseman Arturs Kulda in the second period of Canada's 2-1 quarterfinal win and did not return to the bench for the third period.
The win advances Canada to a semifinal match against Team USA on Friday with the winner advancing to the gold medal final.
Babcock says Tavares out for tournament with leg injury.
