North Carolina-Wilmington fired men's head basketball coach Buzz Peterson after four seasons, the school announced Tuesday.
Peterson had a 42-82 overall mark in his tenure and had two years left on his contract. This season, the Seahawks finished last in the Colonial Athletic Association Conference, going 3-13 and 9-23 overall.
“We appreciate Coach Peterson's work on behalf of the student-athletes and the university,” athletic director Jimmy Bass said. “We thank him for his service and wish him well in the future.”
Peterson has also coached at Appalachian State, Tennessee, Tulsa, and Coastal Carolina in his career.
UNC Wilmington named assistant Eddie Biedenbach the interim coach while the school conducts a search for Peterson's replacement.
