Almost 10 years removed from Rose Bowl MVP honors with the Longhorns, NFL free agent Vince Young said this week that he has a job waiting for him at Texas should his pro career be over.

The position, as described by Young in a report this week from Joseph Duarte of The Houston Chronicle , is an ambassador role that will fulfill several purposes.

“If football doesn’t work out for me, the university has a great job for me," Young said Wednesday at the Touchdown Club of Houston luncheon featuring new UT coach Charlie Strong. "Just letting you know what (UT) has going on, especially helping kids get scholarships and recognizing things like that. Whatever it is, I just want to support the university.”

Asked whether he believes he will play next season or beyond in the NFL, Young, who turns 31 in May, said, "you never know. All I can do is my part and stay ready...You never know when you are going to get a call. There is some interest," but he didn't specify which teams had supposedly reached out to him.

Young made his NFL debut in 2006 with the Tennessee Titans, the team that drafted him No. 3 overall that year, and played for four years with the Titans before a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He was a two-time Pro Bowler -- once in 2006, when he was also named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a second time in 2009. He played in the preseason for the Buffalo Bills in 2012 and Green Bay Packers in 2013 but was released prior to the regular season on both occasions.

"If it doesn’t work out you still had a great shot at it, still was a Pro Bowler, playoff guy and still got a winning percentage and things like that. If it doesn’t work out it’s in God’s hands. I just stay strong and continue to live my life and enjoy my life, especially taking care of my little ones.”
