Julio Franco set to return to professional baseball at age 55

Fifty-five-year old Julio Franco is set to return to professional baseball as a player-manager for the Fort Worth Cats of the United Baseball League on Tuesday, according to ESPN Dallas' Richard Durrett.

Franco played 23 seasons in MLB starting in 1982, and last seeing big-league action in 2007 when he was 48 years old, playing for eight different teams in that time, and winning the AL batting title in 1991.

The three-time All-Star is scheduled to be with Fort Worth for its homestand which stretches through May 28.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to play and coach in Fort Worth and reconnect with my friends, former teammates and Texas Rangers staff members," Franco told the Cats' website. "I love Fort Worth and I'm very excited about the opportunity to work with the younger players and entertain the fans."
