ELMA, N.Y. (AP) -- Abby Wambach will miss the Western New York Flash's first game in her hometown in the new National Women's Soccer League because of a head injury.

The U.S. national team star was struck in the back of the head by a ball but kept playing during the second half of a 1-1 tie at Washington last weekend. The Flash said Thursday that Wambach was improving but will be held out against Boston on Saturday for precautionary reasons.

Wambach is from Rochester, where the Flash play.
