Giovani dos Santos thought he had two goals in the first half of Mexico's World Cup opener against Cameroon. So did his teammates and coaches. So did most watching live and on television. The assistant referee, however? No so much. 

Dos Santos was denied what appeared to be two good goals under rainy conditions at Estadio das Dunas in Natal, with Mexico and Cameroon playing a scoreless opening 45 minutes. On the first, dos Santos took a cross from Hector Herrera, appeared to be level with the last defender at the time of the cross, and volleyed home for what he thought was the opening goal and a dream start for Mexico. On the second, dos Santos' flicked header off a corner kick was also negated when it appeared the ball in question came off a Cameroon defender. 

The controversy comes a day after Brazil took a 2-1 lead over Croatia on a penalty kick by Neymar, which was granted after a dubious flop by Fred.
