Robin van Persie was likely in the lead for best goal at the World Cup, but he had a front-row seat for his greatest competition.

Australia and New York Red Bulls star Tim Cahill scored on an incredible volley, as an immediate response to Arjen Robben putting the Netherlands ahead in their Group B clash in Porto Alegre.

After Robben scored his third goal of the tournament, Australia went right at the Dutch off the restart. Ryan McGowan lofted a cross toward the left side of the Netherlands box, where Cahill was waiting. The all-time leading Socceroo goal scorer unleashed a vicious left-footed volley that tucked under the crossbar and in for a sensational equalizer before he took off for the corner flag for his trademark punching bag celebration. His celebratory mood was mooted later in the half, though, after he picked up his second yellow card of the competition, meaning he'll have to miss Australia's final group game against Spain.

The goal was Cahill's second of the tournament, after he scored off a header vs. Chile in Australia's opener, and it was one of the best -- if not the best -- scored in Brazil in the competition to date. Watch it below:
