Watch: James Rodriguez scores Best Goal of the World Cup candidate
Colombia's James Rodriguez was already making a run at the Golden Ball, awarded to the best player in the World Cup. Now he's firmly in the race for the Golden Boot and the best goal scored in Brazil.
Rodriguez, 22, laced a 25-yard volley by a helpless Fernando Muslera to open the scoring in Colombia's round of 16 clash against Luis Suarez-less Uruguay. Rodriguez set himself up, taking a pass off his chest and hitting a first-time, left-footed wonder-strike that tucked under the crossbar and put himself in the conversation with Robin van Persie and Tim Cahill for the tournament's top strikes. He added a second in the second half, and has now scored in each of Colombia's four games in Brazil. His five-goal tally leads Neymar, Lionel Messi and Thomas Muller by one for most goals in the competition.
