James Rodriguez, Colombia's 22-year-old phenom, had a tremendous World Cup, but his run came to an end Friday with Los Cafeteros' 2-1 loss to Brazil.

Selecao Survive: Three Thoughts on Brazil's 2-1 win over Colombia

Rodriguez scored his tournament-leading sixth goal in the game on a penalty kick, with his pass setting up the run that won the PK. He entered the game as a front-runner for the tournament's Golden Ball -- awarded to the best overall player -- and while he won't have any more time to add to his candidacy, an emotional Rodriguez was given a hero's send-off by an unlikely source.

David Luiz, the scorer of Brazil's eventual game-winning goal, exchanged jerseys and consoled a crying Rodriguez after the final whistle, encouraging the fans to give an ovation for the opposing playmaker at Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza.

What's more, the two are currently slated to go head-to-head this coming season in Ligue 1, with Luiz signing for reigning champions Paris St.-Germain, and Rodriguez currently under contract with Monaco (although widespread reports have a big-money move to Real Madrid in the cards after his showing in Brazil).
