Mario Mandzukic signs with Atletico Madrid
Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic has signed a four-year contract with Atletico Madrid, the club announced on Thursday.
Mandzukic comes to Atletico Madrid from Bayern Munich, where the 28-year-old has played for the last two seasons. The striker scored 26 goals across all competitions for Bayern in 2013-14 and most recently appeared on Croatia's World Cup team, where he scored two goals in the country's victory over Cameroon. He is slated to fill the role voided by Diego Costa, who has departed for Chelsea.
The exact financial details of the transfer have not yet been publicized.
According to the team's announcement, Mandzukic passed a medical examination in Madrid on Thursday morning before signing his new contract.
Atletico's sports director José Luis Pérez Caminero spoke about the acquisition of Mandzukic:
"He’s a strong forward, with a great high ball control and a powerful shot ... He fits well with his attacking teammates and is used to competing at the highest level. He’s a winner, a player used to win titles. He’ll contribute very much"
