Real Madrid has officially acquired Colombia star James Rodriguez from Monaco, the club announced on Tuesday.

The transfer was completed at a price of about €80 million, according to Marca, the Spanish newspaper geared towards coverage of Real Madrid. The deal, which includes a six-year contract, comes out to around $107 million.

Rodriguez, the winner of the Golden Boot in the World Cup, was the breakout star of the tournament. He led all players with six goals and took Colombia to the quarterfinals, where it narrowly lost to host-country Brazil.

The midfielder's move has been long in the making. He reportedly told Monaco he did not want to play this summer in preseason games for fear of injuring himself and putting his "dream move" at risk. Rodriguez fetched a €45 million transfer fee last summer when moving from Porto to Monaco.

Rodriguez will join an already strong lineup at Champions League-winner Real Madrid, which features Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and new signing Toni Kroos.
