Ranieri, 62, signed a two-year contract to lead the national team. The Italian most recently coached Monaco before being fired in May.
Previously he coached for Fiorentina, Valencia, Chelsea, Parma, Juventus, Roma and Internazionale.
Fernando Santos was the team's manager the past four years, but his contract expired following the 2014 World Cup. Greece advanced to the Round of 16 before losing in a penalty shootout to Costa Rica in June.
