Espanyol finished 14th in La Liga last season with 42 points. Their leading goal scorer was Sergio Garcia, who finished with 12 goals. Garcia also led the team in assists, with nine, while Simão added six.
In May, Espanyol announced Sergio Gonzalez would take over as head coach, replacing Javier Aguirre. They also welcomed in Anaitz Arbilla, who signed a four-year contract.
