CSKA Moscow won the Russian Premier League title last season, finishing one point ahead of Zenit St Petersburg. It was the fifth such championship for the club, and they went on to win the Russian Super Cup in July in preparation for the upcoming Premier League season.
The 2013-2014 team was led in scoring by Ahmed Musa and Seydou Doumbia, who had five goals each. Doumbia scored a goal in CSKA Moscow's recent 4-1 victory over FK Torpedo Moscow to begin the schedule.
