Miroslav Klose retires from German national team
German striker Miroslav Klose is retiring from his country's national team a month after helping lead his team to a World Cup victory, the German national team announced Monday.
Klose, 36, is the World Cup’s highest-scoring player in history with 16 goals. He scored in Germany’s 7-1 rout of Brazil in the semifinals to set the record.
Klose is the second member of Germany's national team to retire from international play after the World Cup, following captain Philipp Lahm.
The forward scored 71 goals in 137 matches in international competition.
"The title in Brazil fulfilled a childhood dream of mine," Klose said in a statement. "I am proud and happy that I could contribute to this great success for the German football. There is no better time to close the national team chapter.
