Tony Pulis has resigned as the manager of Crystal Palace just before the start of the club's season.

The team confirmed Friday that Pulis left the club by "mutual consent with immediate effect."

Keith Millen will manage Crystal Palace in the club's opening Barclays Premier League match against Arsenal on Saturday.

Pulis replaced former manager Ian Holloway in November. Crystal Palace finished the 2013-14 season in 11th place in the Barclays Premier League.

Speaking on Friday, Millen revealed his shock at Pulis' departure.

"We are all shocked from the players to the staff. We knew the frustrations of the club that we hadn't brought in as many players as we wanted but as far as training is concerned we had no inkling this might happen," Millen said.

The club signed just four players, Martin Kelly from Liverpool, Fraizer Campbell from Cardiff City, Brede Hangeland from Fulham, and Chris Kettings from Blackpool​ during the offseason. According to The Associated Press, the reported cost for the players was around £2.5 million ($4.2 million).
