The American owners of Manchester United said they have no plans to sell the club in the near future and that they plan to keep it under family control for the next five years, according to a report from The Guardian. 

The Glazer family, who also owns the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, took over Manchester United in 2005 and rid themselves of 10 percent of their stock in the club in a 2012 offering. ​Former United owner Malcolm Glazer died in May, and now his six children control the team.

Last month, the team announced that they were selling eight million shares and doing so with reduced voting rights. Wall Street has said that Manchester United is the most valuable teamin the world with a value of $3.6 billion. 

The club also secured a $130 million a year kit deal with Adidas that will start next season. 

Some Manchester United fans have blamed the Glazers for team struggles. This offseason, for example, a number of fans blamed the ownership for a lack of summer signings.
