Manchester City's Frank Lampard out Tuesday vs. CSKA Moscow

Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard won't play in the team's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday. Lampard injured his thigh Saturday against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard won't play in the team's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, manager Manuel Pellegrini said Saturday.

Lampard injured his thigh in the 26th minute of Manchester City's game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and had to be stretchered off. Pellegrini had no update on his status after the game other than to say Lampard would undergo a scan and that he won't travel with the team to Russia.

Fernandinho came on as a substitute in place of Lampard upon his exit.

Lampard has two goals in four Premier League appearances since joining City on loan from New York City FC. He came on as a substitute in City's 1-1 draw with Roma in its most recent Champions League game on Sept. 30.

The 36-year-old, who retired from England's national team in August, recently said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of extending his loan deal, which is set to expire on Jan. 1.

Lampard scored a club record 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea from 2001-14 before coming to Manchester City. He also scored 29 goals and appeared in three World Cups and two European Championships in international play.

Named Manchester City's Player of the Month for September, he's helped the club tally 17 points through eight games in the Premier League, putting City in second place, five points behind Chelsea.

In addition to drawing with Roma, City lost to Bayern Munich 1-0 in its other previous Champions League game. The team is in third place in Group E, while Moscow has zero points through two games.

Bayern Munich is in first place with six points and Roma is next with four points. They also play Tuesday in Rome.
