The New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League have agreed to sign 37-year-old Spanish striker Raúl, according to ESPNFC.com.

Raúl played for Real Madrid between 1994 and 2010. He scored 228 goals in 550 La Liga games. He moved to German side Schalke 04 in 2010, where he played for two seasons before joining Al-Sadd SC in Qatar. He competed in three World Cups

According to ESPNFC.com, Raúl will join the team for next season, which begins in the spring of 2015, and "will also head up the Cosmos' youth academy, which is expected to launch next year."

The Cosmos, who compete in the United States' second-highest soccer league, are a reincarnation of the previous Cosmos franchise, which famously employed Brazlian legend Pelé.

The Cosmos are the reigning NASL champions. They play their home games at Shuart Stadium, on the campus of Hofstra Univeristy in Hempstead, New York.
