Stoppage-time winner sends Portugal over Argentina at Old Trafford
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Raphael Guerreiro headed an injury-time winner as Portugal beat Argentina 1-0 in an international friendly on Tuesday, on a night the highly anticipated duel between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo fell flat.
The world's top two players lasted just 45 minutes before being substituted at Old Trafford, with Barcelona star Messi having the better of the latest head-to-head with his Real Madrid rival and hitting the post in the 11th minute.
Guerreiro, a second-half substitute, met a right-wing cross from Ricardo Quaresma with a thumping header in the first of two minutes of stoppage time to settle a lackluster game.
Ronaldo was a fleeting presence for Portugal at the ground where he spent six years playing with distinction for Manchester United from 2003-09, managing just one shot that flew over.
