Stoke City manager Mark Hughes confirmed Thursday that his club is in talks with MLS expansion side Orlando City about a transfer of U.S. international Brek Shea.

The Orlando Sentinelreported last weekend that Shea would be moving to Orlando City.

Before arriving at Stoke in January 2013, Shea played for FC Dallas of MLS. The winger hasn't found a regular place on the field for Stoke -- he has only made five appearances with the club -- and has spent much of his time in England on loan with Barnsley and Birmingham City.

Hughes said that the move has not yet been confirmed but that it is in the works.

Shea played for FC Dallas from 2008 to 2012, appearing in 98 matches during that time. He was a finalist for MLS MVP in 2011 after scoring 11 goals and four assists that season.

Shea, who will turn 25 in February, played for the U.S. men's national team most recently in September, when the Americans defeated Czech Republic 1-0. The winger -- who has 27 caps for the U.S. -- was not part of Jurgen Klinsmann's roster at the 2014 World Cup.

The Potters, who also feature American defender Geoff Cameron, are currently ranked No. 12 in the Premier League with 19 points through 16 matches. Stoke hosts Chelsea on Monday.

Orlando City, which signed Honduran striker Bryan Rochez on Monday, will make its MLS debut in 2015.
