Michael Platini to be re-elected as UEFA president

Michael Platini is set to be re-elected as UEFA president this week after no other candidates stepped forward to challenge him, UEFA announced.
Platini, a former captain of the French national team, was first elected to the post back in 2007 and then was re-appointed in 2011. His third term will run from March 2015 to 2019.
Platini said in August that he would not run against Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency, but encouraged a third candidate to oppose Blatter and Jerome Champagne.
• DeAndre Yedlin will join Tottenham in January
Platini has been critical of FIFA's handling of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In October, he called for FIFA's investigation of corruption allegations surrounding the bidding process to be made public.
