New England Revolution forward Diego Fagundez is no longer eligible to represent the United States in international play. 

On Thursday night, Fagundez started for Uruguay in the South American U-20 Championship. As a result, Fagundez is cap-tied to Uruguay since he represented the country in an official FIFA competition. 

Uruguay, which hosted the tournament, went on to win the championship, 1-0, over Colombia.

Fagundez was born in Uruguay, but raised in Boston - where he lived since he was five years old. Fagundez has yet to become an official United States citizen and the appearance in an official tournament means he can no longer file a one-time switch that would have allowed him to play for the United States if he ever decides to become a citizen.

At just 19, Fagundez has already established himself as a valuable player for the Revolution. Since debuting with the Revolution in 2011, he has scored 22 goals and dished out 18 assists in 88 games.
