Elsewhere, Wolfsburg beat ambitious second-division club RB Leipzig 2-0, third-division Arminia Bielefeld upset Werder Bremen 3-1 and Borussia Moenchengladbach won 2-0 at fourth-tier Kickers Offenbach.

Bielefeld was the only lower division team to reach the quarterfinals.

In Munich, Alaba drilled in a superb free kick from the edge of area, firing a left-foot shot into the upper corner in first-half injury time. But the free kick was generously awarded when Arjen Robben fell to the ground after slight contact with a defender. Goetze completed the victory with a solo effort in the 57th.
