Report: Manchester United to offer Chicharito to Southampton
Manchester United will offer striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to Southampton, according to a report from ESPN FC.
The offer is part of a move to try to land Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, whom Chelsea also covets, the report says.
Clyne, 24, turned down a contract extension from Southampton and recently said he was “flattered by the interest from the big clubs.”
According to the report, Southampton is believed to want more than $29 million in exchange for Clyne.
Manchester United paid more than $44 million for a different former Southampton defender, Luke Shaw, last summer.
Hernandez, who is currently on loan to Real Madrid, has one year remaining on his contract.
The 26-year-old Mexican international reportedly turned down an offer to join Orlando City of MLS and prefers to remain in Europe.
Hernandez has scored four goals in 16 appearances with Real Madrid in La Liga.
