Naeher enters the World Cup as the U.S.’s third-choice goalkeeper, her only senior cap coming in a 7-0 win over Argentina on Dec. 18, 2014. She has trained with the national team frequently even when she doesn’t make the final squad for competitions, including the World Cup qualifying tournament.
At the youth level, she won the Golden Glove as the U.S. captured the 2008 Under-20 Women’s World Cup. Naeher, 27, was also the 2014 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, playing for the Boston Breakers. She stopped six of the nine penalty kicks she faced.
