With her fifth World Cup selection, Rampone ties Kristine Lilly for the most among U.S. players. She is the only player on the U.S. squad to have won a World Cup at the senior level, as the last remaining member of the 1999 team.

Rampone could surpass the 25,000-minute mark for the U.S. in 2015, but she missed the Algarve Cup and the first friendlies of 2015 through back and knee injuries. She returned to NWSL action with Sky Blue FC ahead of joining the U.S.’s pre-World Cup camp. Rampone, the team's true leader from the back, captained the Americans to a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and has retained the armband ever since, through the 2011 World Cup final loss and another gold medal at London 2012.
