Chalupny returned to the U.S. after a five-year international absence due to lingering concussion-related issues. Despite not being available for the national team, she continued to play for her club, captaining the Chicago Red Stars since joining the NWSL.

Chalupny started all six of the U.S.’s matches at the 2007 World Cup and played in four games during the 2012 gold-medal run at the Olympics. She plays primarily wide, either in defense or midfield, causing trouble for opponents with her speed and service.
