Brian enters the World Cup as the U.S.’s youngest player. Until being drafted by the Houston Dash at the start of the 2015 season, she was the only collegiate player consistently called into the U.S. squad leading up to the tournament. She and Julie Johnston both played on the 2008 Under-20 World Cup-winning team, with Brian playing all but 18 minutes in the tournament.
She won the MAC Hermann Trophy as the best college player in 2013 and 2014, becoming the fourth women’s player to win the award in consecutive years (Mia Hamm, Cindy Parlow and Christine Sinclair were the others). Lauded for her vision and passing ability, Brian will likely be the first player off the bench in Canada in midfield and could start alongside Lauren Holiday and Carli Lloyd if the U.S. decides to play 4-3-3.
