Landon Donovan on FIFA scandal: 'absolutely not surprised'
Retired U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan shared his thoughts on the FIFA corruption scandal on Thursday, posting screenshots to Facebook of a text conversation he had with friend John Ondrasik, lead singer of the band Five for Fighting.
Ondrasik texted Donovan to gauge his thoughts in wake of the corruption scandal engulfing FIFA.
Donovan responded that he was "not angry, mostly just sad" about the entire situation. He also said he was "absolutely not surprised."
Ondrasik asked Donovan about the possibility of bribing officials in international matches. Donovan said he "never felt that way" as a player, but he also called the notion "absolutely possible and probably likely."

Donovan also discussed his thoughts on Sepp Blatter.
"Where there's smoke, there's usually fire but we can't be sure," Donovan said. He added that Blatter "should be punished accordingly" and take responsibility for allowing corruption to flourish, potential involvement aside.
The final exchange comes several days after the initial ones, after Blatter stepped down as president of FIFA. "I'll run for president if they make it a paid gig," Donovan added. "Oh wait.."
