Report: Groin injury forced Brek Shea out of U.S.'s Gold Cup roster plans
The reason behind one of the most notable omissions from the United States' Gold Cup roster has been revealed.
Orlando City defender Brek Shea, thought to be a good bet to make the roster after a strong performance against the Netherlands in a friendly, was left off the squad thanks to an adductor strain suffered with the national team, according to a report by Paul Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel.
Tenorio reports that Shea suffered the injury while training with the U.S., played through the pain against the Netherlands, then continued to do so in two 90-minute outings for Orlando upon his return. Shea started for Orlando against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday but had to be taken off after 39 minutes.

“It just consistently got worse,” Shea told the Sentinel. “I’ve been playing and running at 70 percent, not even. So I wanted to do something and not have it become a serious, season-long type of injury."
Shea will rest for the next 10 days before being re-evaluated by Orlando City.
