The United States raced to a 4–0 lead in Sunday's Women's World Cup final against Japan thanks in part to a hat trick from midfielder Carli Lloyd.
Lloyd scored on a corner kick in the third minute and hammered home a loose ball in the six-yard box less than three minutes later to double her total. Then, in the 16th minute, Lloyd caught Japanese goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori out of position and booted the ball into the net from the midfield line.
It was Lloyd's fourth consecutive World Cup match with a goal. She now has six goals total in the tournament, tied with Germany's Celia Sasic for the tournament lead.
