Watch: Lauren Holiday's volley gives U.S. 3–0 lead over Japan
United States midfielder Lauren Holiday scored a goal on a lovely volley to give the Americans a 3–0 lead over Japan.
While Carli Lloyd's explosive hat trick was the focus of the United States' match against Japan on Sunday, Lauren Holiday's volley in the 14th minute was also quite impressive.
Holiday scored when a Japanese defender's attempted headed clearance bounded high into the air. She took aim at the ball and made perfect contact, sending it past the goalkeeper at the near post.
Barely two minutes later, Lloyd scored from the midfield line to put the U.S. up 4–0.
