In the 103rd minute of Wednesday’s emotionally charged Gold Cup semifinal between Mexico and Panama, another penalty call set up Andres Guardado’s goal for Mexico in a 2–1 win.

After a questionable red card sent off Panama’s Luis Tejada in the first half, tensions escalated before spectators threw debris onto the field and the two teams scuffled in the second half.

Just before halftime of extra time, Mexico’s Javier Orozco was heading through the penalty area when he was sandwiched by two Panama defenders. A penalty was called on Panama’s Harold Cummings, setting up Guardado’s left-footed strike to the bottom-left corner of the goal.

Mexico hung on for the 2–1 win and will face Jamaica in the Gold Cup final on Sunday. Jamaica defeated the U.S. earlier on Wednesday.

After the game, several Panama players rushed toward referee Mark Geiger before being pulled away. Geiger was ushered away by security.
