Watch: Roma's Florenzi scores on Barcelona from midfield
Roma's Alessandro Florenzi has thrown his hat into the Puskas Award ring with a goal that will be played on highlight reels for years to come.
With Roma trailing Barcelona 1-0 in their Champions League group opener on Wednesday, Florenzi delivered a wondrous goal from just over midfield to pull the home side even.
Florenzi looked up and saw Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen well off his line. From his right-sided angle, Florenzi had a hit, and his long-range blast hit off the post and in as a helpeless ter Stegen could only retreat in dismay.
Barcelona had taken the lead through Luis Suarez, who headed home a cross from Ivan Rakitic.

It's not the first time Barcelona has been beaten from long range this season, either. In the Spanish Super Cup, Athletic Bilbao's Mikel San Jose launched from the center circle as part of the club's 5-1 aggregate victory.

As for an authority on midfield goals' opinion, Carli Lloyd (who did this in the Women's World Cup final to cap her 16-minute hat trick) was impressed.
