Former FIFA vice president Jack Warner is close to being extradited to the U.S.

Former FIFA vice president Jack Warner is close to being extradited to the U.S. after Trinidad and Tobago's attorney general Faris Al-Rawi signed “authority to proceed” documents Monday.

Al-Rawi told reporters Monday that “the process is still unfolding.”

Warner, 72, faces 12 charges in the U.S. regarding racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering in the FIFA corruption scandal. He and 13 other FIFA higher-ups were indicted in May.

Warner is the focus of one of the main elements of the indictment concerning a $10 million payment from South Africa's football officials to CONCACAF, which is suspected by U.S. prosecutors to be for the country's hosting bid for the 2010 World Cup.

Warner, who was ousted by Trinidad and Tobago's parliament early in September, has denied the charges and is opposing the extradition.

The case has been adjourned until Friday in order for documents to be further reviewed.
