Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro has decided to leave the team amid the criticism directed her way by manager Jose Mourinho, according to multiple reports.

BBC Sports reports Chelsea asked Carneiro to return to work after Mourinho called her “naive” for treating midfielder Eden Hazard during an Aug. 8 draw with Swansea City, but Carneiro is instead considering legal action against the club.

Last month, the Guardian reportedCarneiro had her responsibilities with the club scaled back after Mourinho’s criticism. She was expected to remain Chelsea’s first-team doctor and work with the roster daily, but would not longer attend training sessions, matches or enter the team hotel.

EPL Notes: After deadline day chaos, United's bold moves are paying off

Mourinho’s remarks came after Carneiro and physiotherapist Jon Fearn ran onto the field during the Aug. 8 match to treat Hazard after he went down in the third minute of stoppage time.

“I wasn’t happy with them because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game,” Mourinho said. “If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem.

“I was sure that Eden didn’t have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired. My medical department left me with eight fit outfield players in a counterattack after a set piece and we were worried we didn’t have enough players left.”

Mourinho is in his second stint with Chelsea after previously managing the club from 2004 to 2007. He's won the Premier League on three occasions (2004-05, 2005-06, 2014-15) and is in the third year of his current contract. In all of his previous stops—most notably Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid—he has never completed a fourth season with the club.

Chelsea has two wins in six matches and trails Premier League leader Manchester City by eight points.
