Chicharito scores first Bundesliga goal, leads Leverkusen over Mainz
Chicharito is on the board in the Bundesliga
Mexican forward Javier Hernandez scored his first goal in Germany's top flight, and it was the only tally in Bayer Leverkusen's 1-0 win over Mainz 05 on Wednesday. Chicharito, who had already scored for the club in the Champions League, did the heavy lifting on the goal, though he was helped by a deflection.
Hernandez won the ball at midfield and dribbled toward the edge of the 18-yard box, taking on a defender and cutting back to create space. His attempt nicked off Hakan Calhanoglu and wrong-footed Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius, but it counts all the same and was enough to deliver the three points.
Chicharito is in the first month of his three-year deal with Leverkusen after leaving Manchester United during the summer transfer window.
