Jordan Morris won't sign with Werder Bremen after trial

After a prolonged tug of war, Jordan Morris appears to be headed to the Seattle Sounders after a trial with Werder Bremen.

It appears as if Jordan Morris will be staying in the USA after all.

Werder Bremen announced on its website Tuesday that Morris will not be signing a contract with the club after his trial. The 21-year-old forward, who led Stanford to the NCAA championship and emerged on the U.S. men's national team scene in 2015, should now be expected to sign with the Seattle Sounders in MLS. Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey has said that the Sounders offered Morris the largest Homegrown Player contract in league history.

Morris won the Hermann Award as the nation's best college player, and he was said to have been encouraged to join the Bundesliga club by U.S. national team coaches Jurgen Klinsmann and Andi Herzog. MLS commissioner Don Garber said at last week's SuperDraft that the league was doing what it could to secure Morris's services, and that he saw Morris as a key part of the league's future.

Morris will join U.S. national team camp upon his return from Germany, where he assisted on a goal in Werder Bremen's friendly last week.
